Thinking about skipping out on meat and dairy? Going vegan is becoming increasingly more common, but is it actually good for you? Following is the transcript of the video: What happens to your body when you go vegan? Thinking of making the jump to a vegan diet? You’re not alone. In your first few weeks, you may feel especially tired. Without meat, vegans often have a hard time getting enough vitamin B12 and iron, which helps make red blood cells and transport oxygen throughout the body. But it’s nothing a supplement or handful of nuts can’t fix. You may also discover that foods don’t taste the way they used to. That’s because your zinc levels have taken a hit, affecting your overall sense of taste and smell. On the plus side, expect to lose some weight right away! After switching, new vegans lost an average of 10 pounds over a 10 month period. Plus, a 2009 study found that average BMI was lower for vegans than all other diets. Another benefit that you may experience is a healthy decrease in cholesterol, blood pressure, and heart disease risk. In 1999, a study showed that vegans were 24% less likely to have clogged arteries from saturated fat and cholesterol. While your arteries are better off, your bones may not be. If you’re like most Americans who get their daily calcium from dairy products, you may see a dip in calcium levels. But you can combat this simply by boosting your intake of kale, broccoli, and other leafy greens. Plus, cutting out dairy might make you more … regular. 60% of humans don’t have the enzyme to properly digest lactose in dairy. The result is cramping, bloating, and even diarrhea. Swapping dairy with high fiber veggies will make bathroom trips a lot more productive. Like any diet, veganism has its pros and cons. Some do it for animals, some do it for the environment and others for health reasons. Unfortunately, following a diet based exclusively on plants may put some people at a higher risk of nutrient deficiencies. This is especially true when vegan diets are not well planned. In this video I will give you healthy foods that vegans can consume to obtain all the protein, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients needed for optimal health. Vegans do not eat meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, or any foods containing them. A vegan diet relies on plant-based foods including fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, nuts, and seeds. A vegan diet can be a healthful and nutritionally adequate diet; however, a vegan must make sure they eat enough foods with protein, calcium, iron, vitamin B12, and omega-3 fatty acids. Here’s what do vegans eat No 1: fruits and vegetables. Fruits and veggies are probably the most common and frequent food category that vegans eat as they offer many different choices to try besides their high vitamin content. Single fruits, salads, veggie sticks, dips, stir-fried veggies are just a few of the many choices you can eat as a vegan. No 2: Beans and legumes. Since the vegan diet completely lacks of any animal protein, beans and legumes can function as good protein replacements. You can eat for example, white beans, kidney beans, peas, black eyed peas, chickpeas, lentils, broad beans and other legumes for your daily protein intake. No 3: Soy products Soy is very popular in vegan diets because of it is a high protein and very versatile food that is used to make soy milk, tofu, yogurts, cheese and other soy products you can use in all your main meals like breakfasts, salads, sandwiches and desserts. Look up in your local health food store or supermarket and you’ll find plenty of soy products to incorporate in your vegan meals. No 4: Grains Grains like oatmeal, breads, tortillas, and pastas are great sources of carbs and fiber which aid digestion and keep you feel fuller for longer. However, it’s best to go for whole wheat grains and not refined ones as these are the healthiest and contain the most nutrients. No 5: Other extra foods Other foods that you can eat in a vegan diet to increase your energy and nutrient intake are nuts and seeds or spreads like popcorn, pumpkin seeds, pecans, sprouts and so on. Hummus, tahini, and nut butters will also help spike your protein levels besides making ordinary veggies taste more filling. Supplements A vitamin that many vegans tend to lack, and perhaps you’ve already heard of is B-12. B-12 is commonly found in most animal protein sources so when people are switching to a full vegan diet, the levels of this vitamin will inevitably drop. Strong Vegans Vs. Weak Vegans! I have to say; some people are right when they say vegans are weak! New and misguided vegans consume the wrong foods, making them weak! Protein intake is misguided in the vegan community. Many people believe they are a strong vegan by getting 40 - 60g of protein per day by eating rice and beans! If you follow this trend, it will make you a weak vegan. Get most of your protein source from extra firm tofu, seitan, tempeh, and protein powder. Exercise has many health benefits to improving your physical health and appearance. The type of exercise you do can weaken or optimize your fitness goals. Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan has responded to the "hypocrisy" of Animal Rebellion protesters who eat "almonds and avocados" by eating a Big Mac. Animal Rebellion protest groups sprayed the gates of Big Ben with "paint symbolising milk" yesterday. "I meet so many vegans who devour avocados and almonds, and don't seem to realise it involves the slaughter of billions of bees," Mr Morgan said. "My response to you destroying all these things is to have a Big Mac - because, you know what, it's a free country, it's a democracy and I'm allowed to eat meat. "I'm certainly allowed to eat meat when someone who kills bees to feed their avocado habit minds."

A Florida woman says she has found the 'fountain of youth" Annette Larkins shows off her garden in her Miami-Dade County backyard. It's full of fruits and vegetables. Every corner of her garden has something that is edible. She also collects rainwater to drink and water her plants. Annette says the food in her garden is her 'Fountain of Youth.' "I am very vibrant, I have lots of energy, as I told you before, I am up no later than 5:30 in the morning as a rule, and I am ready to go," she said. I do a lot of sprouting of seeds and as you can see from my garden and of course these are the raw foods that I eat." Annette also juices fruits and veggies. You name it, she can juice it. Grapefruits, pineapples, even spinach. But not everyone in the Larkins family eats and drinks this way. Amos says people even wonder if Annette is his wife. "They will ask me 'what am I doing with a young girl? or they will say 'you've got your granddaughter with you,' things like that." Annette says because friends and strangers kept asking her questions about her health and youthful appearance, she decided to publish two Journey To Health booklets, and she produced a DVD 12 years ago. "The Discovery Channel, they took sections of the booklet and translated them into Spanish which is, by the way, my second language." Her husband says she is vibrant person. "She is an amazing person, she does everything. I mean she builds computers, makes all of her own clothes, grows her own food, speak three languages, it's amazing." Interest in vegan food and its associated health benefits has been booming across the rich world. A global retreat from meat could have a far-reaching environmental impact. The environmental impacts of the food system are daunting its responsible for about a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions and uses about 70% of all freshwater resources, and it occupies about 40% of the Earth's land surface. Food rated emissions could increase to 50 percent by 2050 and fill up the total emissions budget that we have in order to avoid dangerous levels of climate change. Interest in vegan food has been booming across the rich world. A major study has put the diet to the test - analyzing an imagined scenario in which the world goes vegan by 2050. If everybody went vegan by 2050 we estimated that food-related greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced by 3/4. Cows are the biggest emission contributors. Bugs in their digestive system produce methane and deforestation for their pasture releases carbon dioxide - these gases warm the planet. Earthling Ed Ed Winters is a vegan educator, public speaker and content creator based in London, England. Winters is the co-founder and co-director of Surge, an animal rights organisation determined to create a world where compassion towards all non-human animals is the norm. In 2016 Surge founded The Official Animal Rights March which succeeded in a growth from 2,500 participants in London in 2016 to 28,000 participants across the world in 2018. In 2017 Winters produced the documentary Land of Hope and Glory and launched the on-going moving activism project The Big Vegan Activism Van. He has spoken at over 1/3 of UK universities and has given speeches across the world. In October 2018 Winters opened Unity Diner, a non-profit vegan diner in London where all of the profits go directly back into helping animals. He launched The Disclosure Podcast in February 2019.
