Welcome to Day 2 onboard the SKY PRINCESS! We're Molly & Matt and we are on a 7 day Cruise starting from Southampton! We had a full day at Sea yesterday and today we have cruised to GUERNSEY, this will actually be our first Time on the island and we are so excited! We took the water shuttle over to the main town and started exploring! The Water colour surrounding the port was so blue and we found the most perfect bar on the seafront! Then we wandered through the street markets before getting the keys to the special tower! I've been in Guernsey for about a month now, so I decided it was time to finally make a video here! This one is a bit random, showing some of the things I've noticed in Guernsey, but it's also strung out alongside a hike from the Table des Pions, or Fairy Ring, in the extreme west of Guernsey. I'll tell you about the Channel Islands' relationship with the UK, differences between the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey, the post boxes, traffic filters instead of roundabouts and plenty of other random things about this beautiful little island! We also stop by the famous Little Chapel to see what all the fuss is about, and I show you a curiosity of Guernsey currency, finished up with a delicious Sunday roast at the Thomas de la Rue, one of my favourite pubs. To celebrate reaching 1000 subscribers, I decided to take on my biggest challenge yet: summiting the highest mountain in Guernsey! 1,111 metres high. I left Cobo Bay for Guernsey Base Camp in an 8km (5 mile) hike up some mountain pass. From there, the real challenge began... And the views were spectacular. I've never seen so many Guernsey cows!

During the reign of Bloody Mary I, there were hundreds of executions ordered across England that saw many Protestants burned at the stake. The burnings of the Marian Persecutions were notorious in establishing the Queen's legacy and reputation, but there was one set of executions on the island of Guernsey that shocked all of the onlookers. The Guernsey Martyrs were three women, one who was pregnant and with child who all had refused to attend church and because of this they were sentenced to death. Katherine Cawches and her daughters Perotine Massey and Guillemine Gilbert had been found guilty of not going to the Catholic services of Mary I's church. Because of this they were sentenced to death for heresy and were to be burned at the stake. As mentioned Perotine Massey was pregnant and should never have been burned, but the executions of the three women shocked many and did not go well. They should have been dead before the fire was lit, but this did not happen. Their executions showed how brutal Mary I's England was, and how savage the Tudor times could be. Tektronix set up a plant on the Isle of Guernsey in 1958 because the residents spoke English and Guernsey had a trade agreement with the European Economic Community (predecessor of the European Union) that allowed sales of instruments to countries in Europe with reduced tariffs and shipping costs, compared to shipping from the U.S. A vintageTEK Museum visitor who had worked at Tek Guernsey said that, at the time, the island's entire economy was the Three T's: Tourism, Tomatoes and Tektronix. This replaces an earlier version that had time code on screen.
