You will get instructions on how long you will need to wear the monitor (usually 24 to 48 hours), how to keep a diary of your activities and symptoms during the test, and personal care and activity instructions, which include keeping the device dry while you are wearing it.
The 14-day ECG monitor is used to detect abnormal heart beats that may occur infrequently. Like the Holter monitor, it records how your heart is working over a two-week period. You wear this portable monitor during your normal daily activities, including during exercise, sleeping and bathing.
How long does it take to get results of the test? It takes about 2 weeks for a technician to scan all of the Holter monitor information into a computer and have the heart doctor (cardiologist) interpret the information. You will be notified of the results, even if they are normal.
